Greetings and Welcome to the Optimal
Health eNewsletter!
Today's area of focus is the liver.
This is one of the more complex organs in the body,
responsible for over 300 known functions. In natural
medicine, the liver is responsible for the following:
1. Storage of blood.
This has a direct effect on a female's cycle as
well as regulating the flow of blood according to
physical activity. Thus gynecological problems,
muscle cramps, blurred vision, skin diseases such
as eczema or psoriasis can often be traced to the
liver.
2. Liver
ensures the smooth flow of energy throughout
the body. What the heart is to blood, the liver
is to energy. It is responsible for moving energy
is specific directions. When this does not occur,
one has problems such as uprising of anger (note
the use of the word "uprising." The energy should
be doing in the opposite direction.), PMS,
nausea, vomiting, bitter taste in the mouth and
distended abdomen. In each instance, the energy
should be going in opposite directions.

3. Directly affects the tendons, affecting our capacity
for movement and physical activity. If the liver
is functioning properly, it will send the stored
blood to moisten and nourish the tendons and joints.
When this is not occuring, impaired movement, spasms,
muscle cramps and tetany (lack of strength in the
limbs) can occur.

4.
Liver is said to "manifest in the nails." The nails
are considered a "by product" of the blood and are
under the influence of the liver.Dry, cracked, indented
nails can be traced to an unhealthy liver.
5. The eyes are the sense organ connected
to the liver. Ever have thoseannoying "floaters?"
The reason for this is liver congestion. Bloodshot,
dry, painful or burning in the eyes is most often
liver related. Next issue, we will cover treatments
for the liver.
Until next week.
